I can still feel that student’s amazement that that image captured exactly how she felt! I so agree that connecting to others with some aspect of shared experience – even if they are not in the same room can be so important. More about the importance of connection in the next post!

Different contexts! Your story shows the efficacy of naming the effects of violence on learning, and especially of helping students name their own feelings.
It also points out an old theme of mine–that working in a group–even if the “group” is online–shifts a student’s mindset from “I’m the only person in the world too stupid to learn this (whatever it is)” to “I’m not alone.”
